Registration for the Fall 2011 ProPhoto Photoblog101 Workshop…

October 5th, 2011

It’s open but I kind of think we should have a little fun first!  Don’t you?

Let’s do the thing where we give freebies and discounts for comments on this blog post.  Can ya dig it?

The goal of this workshop is to hold your hand through getting a prophoto blog completely set up.  If you don’t have hosting or a domain yet, no biggie, the hand-holding can start there.  If you already have established hosting, good deal.  Even if you already have a prophoto blog but have yet to make it your own or simply want to juice it up into a full blogsite, we’re good there too.

Please read through our INFO pages starting here: http://photoblog101.com/info.

The class fee is $80.  We offer a discount if you sign up for hosting with bluehost through us!

If you’re ready to register, go here:  http://photoblog101.com/photoblog101-prophoto-workshop-october-11-2011

But if you want to roll the dice and try to score a discount, leave a comment here on this post.  We love seeing links to really ugly blogs or hearing strangers tell us we’re pretty or even knock-knock jokes.  Or just say “Heck yeah I want a discount!”.  One person will get the course FREE.  One person will get 75% off.  One person will get 50% off.  One person will get 25% off.  It’s that simple.  If we get over 50 comments, we’ll start over with the winningness so share on Facebook, forums and at your favorite coffee shop.

Comments will close on Saturday at noon Eastern Standard Time.

Little Tiny Lesson: Activate Akismet to control spam on your blog!

February 4th, 2011

Here’s a little tiny lesson with big huge potential to save you from spam on your blog.  The plugin akismet comes pre-installed with your wordpress blog.  You just have to activate it.  Activating it is easier said than done though.  So take notes:

notes on activating akismet on your wordpress blog

Akismet is a plugin that is automatically installed with wordpress. It’s that important. It’s your main line against spam. Spammers target your comments and can really clog things up. Not to mention a lot of comment spam is totally inappropriate. Viagra, anyone?

Until you give Askimet an API key, wp-admin will repeatedly remind you that you need to activate akismet.

1) Click the “activate akismet” link. You’ll see that it wants an API key.

2) You can pay for the commercial key or you can get one from a wordpress.com account (click HERE for info on the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org). If you want to get it from a wordpress.com account, create one & log in. Oh yeah, it’s a hassle but it’s totally necessary and worth it. Promise.

3) Go to “my account” and grab the API key.

4) Go back to your wp-admin and enter the key.

A little bit of LOVE for the photoblog101 class!

January 26th, 2011

We are plugging away in the forums with week 2 of our super awesome class about how to customize a (photography) blog theme… and…

get THIS COMMENT from Pam, a mommy blogger and photography hobbiest in the burbs of Philly…

Not only am I hanging in…I am having so much fun!! I am soooo not techy and I am feeling so empowered to be learning all this. Each lesson seems overwhelming while I read it but then when I try it…I actually get it. That is all thanks to you and how you walk us through things step by step. Thank you so much!!! You are the best!

This TOTALLY makes our hearts swell.  So, THANKS PAM!  When we are all done with class we’ll be sure to link to your blog to update everyone on how you did.

We’ll teach you to feel empowered too!  (without the geek speak).
